Homemade Gulab Jamun Recipe..
Ingredients:
- 1 cup full-fat milk powder
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 2 tablespoons ghee (clarified butter)
- A pinch of cardamom powder
- 1/4 cup milk (approximately)
- Oil or ghee for deep frying
For the sugar syrup:
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup water
- A few saffron strands (optional)
- 1/2 teaspoon rose water (optional)
Instructions:
1. In a mixing bowl, combine the milk powder, all-purpose flour, baking soda, ghee, and cardamom powder.
2. Gradually add milk to the mixture and knead it into a soft dough. The dough should be smooth and not too dry or sticky.
3. Divide the dough into small portions and roll each portion into smooth balls without any cracks. Make sure the balls are compact and smooth.
4. Heat oil or ghee in a deep frying pan over medium heat. Fry the gulab jamun balls in batches until they turn golden brown. Make sure to fry them evenly on all sides.
5. While the gulab jamun balls are frying, prepare the sugar syrup. In a separate saucepan, combine sugar, water, saffron strands (if using), and rose water (if using). Bring the mixture to a boil and then simmer for about 5-7 minutes until it reaches a slightly sticky consistency. The syrup should not be too thick.
6. Once the gulab jamun balls are fried, drain them and immediately immerse them in the warm sugar syrup. Let them soak for at least 30 minutes to 1 hour, allowing the gulab jamun to absorb the syrup and become soft and sweet.
7. Serve the gulab jamun warm or at room temperature. Optionally, you can garnish them with chopped nuts like pistachios or almonds before serving.
Enjoy your homemade gulab jamun!
